FLAGSTAFF HOUSE

Thank you for your letter of 9 December, which I have shown to the Minister of State for Defence. I confirm that we are content with the arrangements proposed for Flagstaff House, namely:

(a) although legstaff House will remain the residence of the Commander British Po.ces at least until 1st April 1979, this should not inhibit the town planning exercise over the area as a whole;

(b) on the assumption that the area occupied by Flagstaff

House is eventually required for other purposes, the Hong Kong Government accepte an obligation to make available a suitable alternative residence for the Commander British Forces in an acceptable location; and

c) rhere can be no question of the Commander British

Forces having to move from legstafi House until such a residence is ready for him.
