This will entail the

closure of the Joint Services Transmitting Station (JSTS} on Stonecutters Island and the Royal Naval Communications

Centre in Victoria Barracks. However this cannot be

achieved until 31 December 1975 to match the deployment

of TG 317.3. A decision is awaited as to how to

provide the ship/shore RATT link and other rear-link contingency HF circuits. It may be that a small part

of JSTS will have to be retained.

d. LEPS in UK based ships will be replaced by UK

ratings by the end of 1976 but there will be some

substitution of LEPS for UK ratings in the Hong Kong

Squadron.

e. In order to achieve minimum manning of HMS TAMAR a variety of support services are being studied with a view to rationalisation under single service management

(mostly the Army).

Manpower. These reductions will entail an overall reduction of approximately:

a. 150 UK officers and ratings plus the crews of the two patrol craft.

b. 280 LEP ratings including LEPS serving with the

Fleet who will not complete the rundown until the end

of 1976.

10. Requirement. The reductions in the Army entail the withdrawal of the equivalent of one UK major unit together with reductions in the support and administrative element of the garrison. This will be achieved by:
