Whether they would be but we should gain
The FCO have pressed throughout the Defence Review for greater emphasis on rationalisation and specialisation in defence tasks and for more standardisation of military equipment within the Alliance. The Americans in particular attach importance to greater co- operation in these areas, and the reference to this in the draft reply to Dr Luns' letter (para. 5) will be welcome to them and to
our other Allies.
In general we think that the draft reply makes the right points and the Secretary of State can endorse it.
