20. A recently concluded review of the future role and organi-
sation of the Women's Royal Naval Service (WRNS) proposes far-
reaching changes designed to integrate the WRNS more closely into
the Naval Service, to give wider employment opportunities and to
make more effective use of the high quality of officers and ratings
available. These proposals are under consideration and those
approved will be introduced progressively. / These proposals have
been approved in principle by the Admiralty Board and will be
introduced progressively.7

Young Entrants' Option
21. During the last nine months of 1974, some 9,500 young entrants
reached the age of 18 and became entitled to shorten their engage-
ments. The proportion that did so is shown in the following
table:
