WITHDRAWALS NOT AFFECTING MOVEMENT PLANS
1. Malta.
The rundown and withdrawal of UK forces in Malta
between 1 April 1977 and 31 March 1979 is the subject of a
separate study.
2. Oman.
The withdrawal of UK forces providing direct
assistance in Oman is dependent on the progress of the war in
Dhofar.
3.
Masirah.
Planning for the withdrawal of UK forces from Masirah
has not yet been authorised because of American representations
on our intentions.

Caribbean.
Withdrawal of the two frigates and the military
element of No 1 JRS, Nassau and the reduction of SNOWI's
Headquarters to that of ISCOM BERMUDA can be achieved by the proposed
date of 1 April 1976 without difficulty.
5.
South Atlantic. Withdrawal of HMS ENDURANCE by the planned
date of 1 April, 1976 presents no major problems although alternative
arrangements for relieving the RM garrison will need to be made.
The FCO has expressed misgivings about ENDURANCE's withdrawal,
and foreign policy considerations will need to be taken account of in
deciding the timing of a public announcement.
6. Gibraltar.
Only minor reductions are envisaged.
