Equipment
(i)
Seadart
Seadart, a ship-launched medium-range surface-to-air
guided-missile system for area air defence, has been
installed in HMS Bristol and HMS Sheffield. Seadart will
be fitted in all Type 42 destroyers and in the new anti-
submarine cruisers.
(ii) Tigerfish
The Mark 24, Tigerfish, advanced wire-guided acoustic
homing torpedo entered service last year. It is faster
and has a longer range than its predecessor.
(iii) Mark 46 Torpedo
Deliveries of the S-manufactured Mark 46 light-weight
anti-submarine torpedo started in mid-1974 and are due to
be completed this year. The Mark 46 is intended mainly for
use by helicopters and Royal Air Force Nimrod aircraft, but
it can also be launched from surface ships.
(iv) Exocet
The Exocet surface-to-surface guided-
weapon system has now been installed in HMS Norfolk.
ms Glamorgan and HMS Antrim.
(v) Ikara
Ikara, a quick reaction anti-submarine missile system,
comprising an air-flight vehicle (which carries a homing
torpeao)and shipborne launching and guidance equipment,
has been installed in HMS Bristol and the Leander class
frigates S Leander, HMS Ajax and IMS Galatea.
