AIM

3. To confirm the general principles governing, and establish

the key dates for, the withdrawals and reductions of UK

forces in the non-NATO and Mediterranean areas.

GENERAL PRINCIPLES

The principles which are to govern the planning of the

withdrawal" and reductions were stated (2) by the Chiefs

of Staff as:

The aim is to complete reductions, withdrawals and

local disposels where appropriate, as much in advance

of the dates given as is consistent with paras b and d

below. If, however, any rear parties have to be left

after these dates, their size and length of stay are not

to involve significant expenditure.

Withdrawals/reductions should be 'planned with

administrative convenience in mind but so as to minimise
