The following recommendations were agreed in discussions with
the Hong Kong Polytechnic :

Bearing in mind the low morale of the teaching staff at
the present time, and that this arises partly from over-
optimistic assumptions by successful candidates about
conditions of working for the Hong Kong Polytechnic before
accepting an offer :
(i) the Polytechnic should prepare a revised version
of the background information sheet provided for
candidates.
(ii) TETOC interviewing panels should give a more down-
to-earth briefing regarding what the Polytechnic
expects of its academic staff and of the problems
