1. We had a discussion on 22 May with Mr McNally about the conclusions reached at the meeting between the Secretary of State and members of the National Executive of the Labour Party held on 23 April at the House of Commons. The Secretary of State then suggested that there should be a periodic assessment of Hong Kong's performance in applying International Labour Conventions and that these assessments should be seen by a Minister.
2.
This is one aspect of the matters raised at this Committee that we shall need to carry forward fairly quickly and I would like to suggest that we get together immediately after the International Labour Conference next month to review what needs to be done. By that time we may have had a response from Hong Kong on the question of the Maritime Conventions.
