Your manuscript minute on Hong Kong Saving tel. no. 150 attached below.
2. Last year Gibraltar and General Department asked all dependent territories to inform them of every UK Shipping Act that applied to their territory and of any local ordinances varying the Acts. This was the first step in an exercise to consider what amendments will be necessary to territorial legislation to bring it into conformity with the requirements of certain ILO Conventions including ILO Convention No. 105. (See paragraph 3 of FCO Saving tel. no, 21 of 14 November 1974).
3. Most of the dependent territories have forwarded this information except for Hong Kong who asked for a complete catalogue of every item of Merchant Shipping Legislation made by the UK. (Hong Kong Saving tel. no. 4 of 8 January 1975). G & GD replied to this (FCO Saving tel. no. 17 of 12 March 1975) saying that this information was still being collated but that the 1970 Merchant Shipping Act would serve as a helpful guide. However, Hong Kong remain adamant that they cannot provide the information required without a copy of every item of extant Merchant Shipping Legislation (their tel. no. 81 Saving of 4 April).
On the present position please see Miss Swan's minute of 17 July above.
