I am directed by the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs to request that the following declaration may be communicated to the Director General of the Internationaļ Labour Office.
2. In accordance with Article 35(2) of the Constitution of the International Labour Organisation, the United Kingdom Government hereby declares that International Labour Convention Bio. 14 concerning Weekly Rost (Industry) 1921 will be applied with the following modifications to Hong Kong:
Article 2(i) Non-manual workers in receipt of a salary exceeding 2000 dollars (Hong Kong) have no statutory entitle- ment to rest days.
(ii) Other workers have a statutory entitlement to four
rest days in each month. Under Section 2 of the Employment Ordinance (Cap 57) "kest Day" is defined to mean a continuous period of not less than 24 hours but there is no statutory requirement that these rest days must be taken at soven-day intervals.
Adult male workers with a statutory entitlement to four rest days per month may work voluntarily on those days but there is no statutory requirement that compensatory rest periods should be granted.
Article 5
3. The Government of Hong Kong has agreed that a declaration in these terms should be made.
