Hong Kong and the Textile, Clothing and Footwear Industries
I am writing on behalf of the TUC Textile, Clothing and Footwear Industries Committee to ask whether you have any further information on the way in which trading affairs with Hong Kong are dealt with by the various departments involved within the UK Government. You will recall that at the meeting on July between yourself and representatives of the Committee there was a discussion of the effect of Hong
You said Kong's constitutional status on trade affairs. that you would look into the way in which trade issues were considered by the UK Government and inform the Committee of your findings.
In view of the key position of Hong Kong in UK trade in textiles, clothing and footwear, it would be most useful if the Committee could receive some clarification on this question. Yours sincerely
Lioner
