COMMANDER 51 JALU W BRIGADE
Brigadier Derek Boorman was commissioned from the Royal Military Academy
Sandhurst in 1950 into the North Staffordshire Regiment.
During the course of his service Brigadier Boorman has served in Korea,
Kenya, Trieste, BAOR, Persian Gulf, British Honduras, Berlin and Hong Kong,
He has attended both the Army Staff College and the Joint Services Staff
College.
He commanded the 1st Battalion of the Staffordshire Regiment from 1969
to 1971. His next appointment was CSO 1 (DS) at the Army Staff College from
1971 to 1972. On promotion to Colonel in June 1973 he assumed the appointment
of AAG MP6(A) at the Ministry of Defence. He left this appointment in December
1974 to assume command of 51 Infantry Brigade. This is his third tour in Hong
Kong having served here at Headquarters Land Forces in 1956 and 48 Curkha
Infantry Brigade in 1962.
Brigadier Boorman is married and has three children. His wife's name is
Jane. Their three children, two girls and a boy are all being educated in
England.
His interests include horses, polo, classical music and agriculture.
