When Lord Goronwy-Roberts was here we discussed how we could use The Queen's visit from 4th to 7th May to try and get a more balanced and sympathetic coverage for Hong Kong, particularly in the UK press.

It so happens that the Trade Development Council, whose chairman is Sir Y. K. Kan will be holding gala presentations of Hong Kong clothes in Paris on Sunday, 6th April, in connection with the Paris Ready to Wear 1975 Exhibition, and subsequently in London on Thursday 10th April at the old Adams house, now the Hong Kong Government Office, in Grafton Street. As you know I have asked whether Princess Alexandra would be the guest of honour at the latter.

Subject to anything Eddie Tomkins may have to say (I am copying this letter to him) my wife and I would like to attend both these functions which are of great importance in themselves from the point of view of trade promotion.

When in London, in addition to being available to see anyone in the office, I think it might be helpful if I offered to stand fire from the media, perhaps assisted by Sir Y. K. Kan. If this went all right very big if I admit the timing would be about right for putting the presentation of Hong Kong affairs into a better perspective as a preparation for The Queen's visit.

It might also turn out that this timing fitted in with another round on the perpetual subject of defence costs.

I am rather reluctant to be away from Hong Kong again quite so soon, but it would only be for a
