Princess Alexandra's Private Secretary has sent me the attached letter for forwarding to the Governor. This takes the line that I agreed with Miss Mitchell. I also said that we
would cover it with a letter from you giving the background; and that we would give the Governor prior notice by telegram.

The Governor has also telegraphed to Mr Herries (Hong Kong telno. 141) about the arrangements for his visit.
I have discussed this with Mr Herries and he has sent an interim
reply. Mr Herries has also spoken to Mr Kidd. Unprompted by me, they have both said that they are worried about the whole scale
of this promotion and particularly about the degree to which the Governor is lending himself to it. Their judgment is that it would be better to play the whole exercise on a purely commercial network. This suggests that the guests invited to the dinner and the show
should be commercial and perhaps show-business and media personalities rather than political leaders who might find it inexpedient to attend. Mr Herries would like to discuss this whole question with you at our luncheon with the Hong Kong Association next week.
