The increased use of private cars and lorries contributes to

the deterioration in public transport services.

The life style of London's citizens, workers and visitors, and

particularly those without the use of a car, is being affected by

the phenomenon of deteriorating services and staff shortages.

The need in London for better integration of rail services and

inadequate interchange facilities between all modes of transport.

The situation in London is complicated by the spread of powers

between different agencies and therefore co-operation and joint

working is called for to achieve the goal.

High costs of transport to the consumers

In Hong Kong, where public transport is inadequate or delayed or

is not available at all, the public is being diverted to lower

capacity and high-price vehicles such as PLBs, taxis and private

Fuel supply difficulties, while highlighting the value of public

transport services to the community, can place a heavy additional

burden on the whole transport system.

The single and most critical problem facing public transport

today in London is staff shortage.

Staff shortage in London has its most visible effects on the transport

services, but also prejudices the achievement of capital investment

programmes.
