Thamesmead Committee (Thamesmead Committee is a new housing project). All
these committees are responsible to the Council as a whole. The Housing Programme
Board's purpose is to determine that every Londoner has the opportunity to live in
accommodation of an acceptable standard, both for the dwelling and its immediate
environment, and to provide that opportunity in so far as it is not provided by private
enterprise, the boroughs as primary housing authorities, or housing associations
and societies, as early as possible. The Council's objectives as spelled out in the
Budget for 1974/75 consisted of the followings:-

in or near to Greater London, the target now being shown as 8, 250 (including 200
for single/persons) but more if, on review, this appears practicable;
