Fire Services

There is nothing more urban than the fire services and first and

foremost, such should be included in the activities of the Urban Council, as soon

as possible, if not immediately.

The Greater London Council has as one of its programme groups

the Public Health and Safety Programme Group. In this programme, the Greater

London Council (hereinafter "GLC") is concerned, and the Urban Council will

concern if included as proposed, broadly speaking, in preventing and controlling the

dangers and damages arising from fire. The Fire Brigade's work in London may

be summarized as follows:-

to save life (in 1972/73 the Brigade saved 253 lives);
