Statement by the Unofficial Members of Legislative Council
(1) The Unofficial Members of the Legislative Council affirm that they would welcome the appointment to the Legislative Council of persons, from a broader Spectrumsogment of society whose experience befits them for
membership of the Council.
(2) They consider it is important to continue to "
maintain the principle that all appointments should be in a personal capacity; and that there should be no implication of representation of any particular interest or group.
{
(3) They place it on record that the following” passagos
were Dr. Hon. S.Y. CHUNG's personal ideas in expansion of the generally agreed theme referred in (1) above:
"The introduction of a payment would'.
make it possible to choose as Mombers
of this Council persons who work among the wido base in the organizational structure of factories and shops in Hong Kong." (Actual Hansard Version)
"It would therefore be a move forward
in the right direction if appointment can be made to this Council of persons
who can themselves speak for the workers
+
of Hong Kong who number more than a million in our 4 million population."
