The Right Honourable Lord Goronwy-Roberts (formerly Mr. Goronwy Owen Roberts)

Lord Goronwy-Roberts was born in 1913 and educated at Ogwen Grammar School, the University of Wales and London University. He is a fellow of the University of Wales and did research at Kings College, London from 1937-1939.

He joined the infantry in 1941 and then served in the Army Reserve. He was Youth Education Officer to the Caernarvonshire Education authority from 1941 to 1944.

He writes and broadcasts on literary matters and was formerly chairman of a firm of publishers.

He was elected to Parliament as a Labour Member in 1945 and continued to represent Caernarvonshire until 1974, when he was made a Life Baron.

He held the following appointments during his career as a Member of the House of Commons:-

Member, Speaker's panel of Chairmen, 1963-64

Chairman, Welsh Economic Planning Council, 1964-66

Minister of State, Welsh Office, 1964-66

Minister of State for Education & Science, 1966-67

Minister of State, F.C.0., 1967-69

Minister of State, Board of Trade 1969-70

He received his present appointment following the general election in February 1974.

Lord Goronwy-Roberts is married with two children.

Lady Goronwy-Roberts is accompanying him to Hong Kong.
