Dear Mr. Male,
As Derek March may have mentioned to you, I have been asked by the Far Eastern Economic Review (of which I used to be the Editor in the early 1960s) to write the lead article in their annual Britain in Asia' focus issue which is to come out shortly. Among other things, I am supposed to give an analysis of Britain's current policies and political interests in the South and East Asian area, and for this purpose I would much appreciate it if I could get something of a briefing from you. It is rather a wide field, ranging from India and Pakistan at one end to Japan and China at the other, and also taking in South-east Asia. I would like if possible to make it forward- looking, to mention the forthcoming Royal visit to Japan and similar matters.
Could I possibly get 20 or 30 minutes with you sometime when you could squeeze it in, possibly towards the end of next week, on Thursday or Friday, October 10 or 11? It would have to be by the 11th at the latest, since I have to write the article over that week-end.
