Proposed closures. At present 107 of the Government beds are temporary beds in hospital wards-principally at Queen Elizabeth. The use of these beds, despite under-utilized beds in maternity homes reflects the preference for hospitals. The aim is to eliminate these sub-standard beds when more hospital maternity beds become available in the Princess Margaret Hospital late in 1974.
