Chapter 3

OBJECTIVES

3.1

(a)

The broad objectives of these proposals are

to build new hospitals and dinics to meet

the demands from expected population growth;

(b) to improve standards wherever practicable;

(c) to increase provision for the specialist treatment

of psychiatric cases and of the elderly;

(a)

to give priority to medical and health services

in the new towns (and through them the New Territories);

(e)

to make good some gaps in the existing services in the

urban areas, subject to the general priority for the

new towns;

to renovate or replace below-standard clinics wherever

possible;

(g)

to relieve overcrowding in Government hospitals;

(h)

to secure greater use of beds in Government-assisted

hospitals;

(i)

to reorganise the casualty and accident services;

(j)

to maintain, improve and expand the health services;

(k)

to consolidate and expand family planning services; (1) to develop further the medical treatment of drug

to improve general dental health.

3.2

Effective progress towards these objectives will require

dentists and nurses.
