UN NARCOTIC. (LVILA IN IHh

1. Would you please refer to your letter Uk 7/7/74 of 5 kovember about possible candidates to succeed Mr A A Bashott as UN Narcotic Adviser in Iran.

2. Unfortunately 1 have heard from the l in the that Mr kenneth Stacey has recently accepted a UN appointment in Mierra Leone through the Us Technic-1 . ssistance Recruitment Service in New York. 1 have therefore spoken to Chris Train about the possibility of our second choice Mr Norman Jolph being interested in the post put he feels that although dolph's health is good be uces not think that on the whole this post would be suited to him, he believes that Holph woula for instance be much more interested in working in the UN Commission on harcotic Drugs in Geneva and also considers that the post in lran is of a "lower grading" to that of dolph's present position, although he does not rule out the possibility that molph may in fact be interested, and added that we may still like to consult him. bubject to any further views you may have therefore, we will write to kolph.

す。

With the unavailability of Stacey and the probable non- interest of molph should we consider Mr George Dunning again? As I mentioned in my letter of 15 Cctober the Overseas Folice Adviser has a high regard for his abilities.

4.

Peter Chaw in lấU mentioned over the 'phone that as the post in Iran has not yet been advertised by the UI Technical Assistance recruitment service she fed that he could not make any approaches to any other possible candidates they have on their books until the vacancy announcement is circulated to Governments. I replied that I did not think we wanted him to
