ANGLO/US/HONG KONG MEETING ON DRUG TRAFFICKING TO BE HELD IN WASHINGTON 1-3 JULY
1. You will wish to be aware of a forthcoming meeting that is to be held in Washington from 1 to 3 July between British, US and Hong Kong Officials. These meetings are held periodically to discuss drug trafficking into and out of Hong Kong. I enclose a copy of a self-explanatory letter that we have received from Christopher Train, an Assistant Secretary in the Home Office. As you will see the US Drug Enforcement Administration have made accommodation and transport arrangements and you should not therefore be involved in any administrative arrangements. However I have suggested to Train that while it is not necessary for him to call at the Embassy he might as a matter of courtesy wish to telephone you to confirm his presence in Washington.
