18. On 24th March, 1974, acting on information, officers of the Narcotics Bureau raided a flat in Queen Victoria Street, Hong Kong. The premises were searched and a large quantity of heroin manufacturing paraphernalia and chemicals were found. Although some of the equipment had been used previously it appeared that the flat had not yet been used as an illicit refinery, however prep- arations to convert it into a refinery were in an advanced stage. No persons were in the flat at the time of the raid and enquiries are continuing to locate the tenant of the premises.

19. On 24th May, 1974, a party of police officers raided a wooden structure in Bay View, Hong Kong. On the arrival of the police party, two men, CHAU Mun-chiu (0719/3641/2600), 31 years and IP Hung (5509/3163), 33 years, were arrested when trying to escape. A search of the structure was made and a large quantity of barbitone and manufacturing equipment including stoves, basins, stirrers and sieves was seized. CHAU and IP had been in the process of manufacturing bar- bitone. The total seizure in the structure was 23.5767 kilogrammes of a mixture containing 9.8208 kilogrammes of barbitone. CHAU and IP were jointly charged with Manufacturing a Dangerous Drug. The case is still pending.

20. On 2nd June, 1974, acting on information, officers of the Narcotics Bureau raided a res- idential flat in Hung Hom, Kowloon. No one was present at the time of the raid and entry was gained by forcing the main door.
