is not yet in force, but Government intends to adhere so far as possible to the principles laid down in it when tightening up local legislation and procedures.
31.
At its 25th Session in January-February 1973, the Commission established an Ad Hoc Committee for the Far East region from amongst its members. This Committee's task was to consult the countries concerned and to report to the Commission's next session, in February 1974, on the most suitable means of realising and promoting more effective co-operation and mutual assistance in the suppression of the illicit traffic within, from and into the Far East region. The United Kingdom is a member of the Committee. Its full terms of reference and membership are given at Appendix 'C'. It had the full support of the Hong Kong Government and visited here on a fact finding mission in October 1973.
International Co-operation
32.
The Government will continue to make the fullest use of the available international machinery to co-operate with other countries to suppress the ́illicit drug trade and will support its extension and
development as appropriate.
33.
At the operational level there is liaison and co-operation between the Royal Hong Kong Police Force and the Preventive Service and their counterparts in other countries on matters connected with the illicit trafficking of dangerous drugs. In November 1973 a Hong Kong Liaison Officer was appointed to the British Embassy at Bangkok to facilitate co-operation between the authorities in that region and Hong Kong over narcotics matters. There is also close contact with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, and information about traffickers and trafficking is exchanged with Interpol in Paris.
