Our attention has just been drawn to the fact that 117 refugees from South Vietnam were forcibly deported from Hong Kong to Saigon on June 17th, and that, in spite of President Thieu's assurances that they would be treated leniently, he has since admitted to having sent them to the notorious Con Son Island prison to await trial.
The Women's International League for Peace & Freedom realises that protest at this late date may be unavailing but wishes to record its dismay that such refugees should not have been given asylum in Hong Kong, and hopes HMG will do its best to secure their release.
The WILPF further urges HMG to ensure that no such further deportation occurs in future from Hong Kong or any other dependent territory.
Yours sincerely,
