I enclose a collection of the recent cuttings from the Hong Kong press on the trial of the illegal immigrants in Saigon. You may like to note in particular the editorial in the South China Morning Post on 1 November. It refers favourably to the representation made by the British Government to the South Vietnamese, but the last sentence makes it clear that press interest could flare up again here if there is any change in the situation, especially in the sentences themselves. us hope that will not happen.

I am copying this letter, together with the South China Morning Post editorial only, to Hong Kong and Indian Ocean Department.
