PS/Lord Goronwy-Roberts
ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS RETURNED FROM HONG KONG TO SOUTH VIETNAM
At his meeting on 7 August, and in the light of the Open File article in the Guardian, Lord Goronwy-Roberts asked for a chronology of what had happened to the members of the group, quoting facts and figures. This I append.
2.
The draft telegram attached to my submission of 6 August asked our Missions in the Netherlands, France and Australia to enquire whether there was any substance in Amnesty International's claim that these countries were willing to take some of the group. As agreed, we have now added a paragraph asking Canberra to enquire whether there is any truth in Open File's assertion that the Deputy Prime Minister has raised the question in Parliament and called for an immediate investigation.
3.
I understand that Mr Squire has arranged for the South Vietnamese Counsellor to call at 11.00 a.m. on 8 August.
