Dear Sir,
We are members of Amnesty International in Germany and wish to draw your attention to the 118 South Vietnamese deported from Hongkong to Saigon on June 17th, 1974, despite Amnesty International's intervention. As we are still deeply concerned about these people and as we have reason to believe that they are not well treated, we would like again to point out the assurances given by the South Vietnam Government that those deported people would not be serverely dealt with.
Perhaps, would it be possible for you to intervene at least in one special case, theone of
Mrs. Cheng Po Dung alias Trinh Dung and her daughter of about 5 years
who were amongst those 118 South Vietnamese deported and who are at present detained at the Con Son Prison.
The decision by the Hongkong Government to return those people was very hard on her as she only wanted to join her husband in Hongkong (who is of Chinese nationality and living in Hongkong). She never made herself guilty of anything, just was never allowed an emmigration visa by the Vietnamese authorities in order to leave the country legally and join her husband with her child.
We should be most grateful for any assistance you can give us with those unfortunate prisoners and to bring about the release of them.
Thanking you and hoping that this request will not cause you too much trouble, we remain
Yours faithfully,
Jelena Keizinger
