Mr Greville Janner QC MP has written to Mr David Ennals enclosing correspondence from Mr M P Tracy of Hastings & Co., a firm of solicitors in Hong Kong, about Mr Li Kit, one of the illegal immigrants recently returned from Hong Kong to South
Vietnam.

Mr Tracy's letter to Mr Janner is the original of a letter of which he sent copies to six other Members of Parliament. Lord Goronwy-Roberts has already replied to Mr Ben Ford MP and Flag 100 Mr Robert Maclennan MP, who wrote to him about it. The Minister has also written to Mr James Johnson MP. Mr Hattersley answered a written Parliamentary Question from Mr Johnson on 10 July.

The department sent a copy of Mr Tracy's letter to the Political Adviser, Hong Kong, but did not then ask for his comments. However, in Lord Goronwy-Roberts's subsequent letter to Mr Maclennan, he promised to write again when we had heard from the Governor. I do not think we can now offer less to Mr Janner, since the recipients of Mr Tracy's letter may compare notes. I have therefore written again to Hong Kong to ask for the Governor's early comments.
