The Embassy of the Republic of Viet-Nam presents its compliments to Her Majesty's Foreign and Common-
wealth Office and has the honour to draw the kind
attention of the latter on the following :
On June 4th, 1974, a fishing junk with 119 Viet- namese of Chinese origin aboard, was arrested within the territorial waters of Hong Kong. Apparently, most of them are draft dodgers and they arrived in Hong Kong
by illegal means.
When the Consulate General of the Republic of Viet-Nam in Hong Kong approached the local authorities in view to seek the repatriation of those Vietnamese,
it was informed that the case had been deferred to
London for decision.
On instructions from its Government, the Embassy would like to inform Her Majesty's Government that the Government of the Republic of Viet-Nam sincerely wishes that the 119 Vietnamese in question be repatriated to the Republic of Viet-Nam and it is willing to extend to the authorities of Hong Kong all necessary coopera-
tion in this matter.
This Embassy would therefore greatly appreciate it if it could be advised of the decision of Her Majes-
ty's Government on this case.
In thanking Her Majesty's Foreign and Commonwealth Office for its kind assistance, the Embassy of the Repu- blic of Viet-Nam avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the latter the assurances of its highest
consideration.
