Please refer to your letter of 22nd July about your application for apointment as Senior Assistant Commissioner of iolice in the Royal Hong Kong Police Force.

As I told you last week, I have discussed the terms of your appointment with representatives of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, the Overseas Development Linistery and the Metropolitan Police. An offer of appointment will be made to you by the CDM and this will set out the detailed 'conditions of service. I understand that Niss Goater of

the Metropolitan Police, F2 Branch, will explain to you the position as regards superannuation etc., under the Overseas Bervice Act. This covers the first three questions in your letter of 22nd July.

As regards medical and dental attention in Hong Kong, the position is as follows:

(1) Medical attention is provided free of charge for

officers end their families whilst in the Colony but hospital maintenance charges are made. Dental treatm ment (extractions and fillings) is also provided free of charge, but charges are made for dentures and dental appliances. Epectacles are not provided by Government.

(ii) For the purpose of this Cection, "family" means the

officer's wife, sons under the age of 19 years and unmarried daughters under the age of 21 years.
