My dear John
PF GODBER

BER
(286)
When I was at Bow Street on 8 November, Christopher French had
a brief informal word with me about the case of R v Reading, since
it had occurred to him that this case might provide authority for the
institution of civil proceedings against Godber claiming the moneys
he has illicitly acquired.
2. One of my colleagues has since prepared a short informal minute about the case, a copy of which I enclose.
3. Obviously the chances of a successful civil claim against Godber would depend on the evidence available to indicate how he acquired his wealth. If you think the matter worth pursuing, it occurs to me that you might like to ask French for an opinion.
