Dear J.

(30)

This is to acknowledge receipt of your

letter of the 5th June. 1974.

Firstly I was very pleased to learn that you had found some of my advice helpful to you. I hope you will secure good results.

There is no substitute for experience and I was fortunate in being able to build up so much in fairly quick order in places where the police were always being kept very busy coping with all classes of crime. I also think that as I travelled about the world a lot this helped me to deal with many nationalities. I also met and made many friends some of whom proved to be useful contacts and others who were influential to be trusted to help guide me over the rough patches. It paid to join the best clubs and be a good "mixer". To be accepted as a friend able and willing to give sound advice when it was sought.

I will write to you again soon. This is just to let you know your letter was received and if I can be of help to you, not to hesitate to get in touch with me.
