Dear Andrew,

REF.

14th November, 1974.

(262) 291

Your letter to Mr. Tilton dated the 6th November, copied to Jack Cater, has been passed on to me. I can only assume from the wording of your second sentence that you did not receive my letter of the 5th June addressed to you personally. I enclose a copy. From this you will see that I did in fact write to Mr. Tilton as long ago as June. attach a copy of my letter to him and of his reply so that you may have the whole picture. I have not heard directly from him since.

I think you will admit that during my recent trips to London I had little time in which to contact him personally.

Incidentally, while one is naturally very appreciative of the interest taken by men like Mr. Tilton and of their efforts to help, I am doubtful if he can in fact assist us in our present difficulties. He is clearly out of touch with present day Hong Kong, not having been here since 1941. However, it is pleasant to know that one's efforts are being followed and where possible cheered from the side lines.
