An Act for continuing in the East India Company, for a further Term, the Poffeffion of the British Territories in India, together with their exclusive Trade, under certain Li- mitations; for establishing further Regulations for the Government of the faid Terri- 'tories, and the better Administration of Justice within the fame; for appropriating to certain Ufes the Revenues and Profits of the faid Company; and for making Provifion for the good Order and Government of the Towns of Calcutta, Madras, and B:mbay.

HEREAS it is expedient that the exclufive Trade of the United Company of Merchants of England trading to the East Indies, within the Limits of their Charter, which, by an Act måde in the twenty-first Year of his Majesty's Reign, for establishing an Agreement with the faid Company, and other Purposes, was continued to them for a Term thereby limited, fhould be further continued to them ⚫ and their Successors, under certain Limitations and Restrictions, for a Term of twenty Years, to be com- puted from the first Day of March one thousand seven hundred and ninety-four, liable to be discontinued at or after the End of fuch Period, upon three Years Notice previously given by Parliament for that Purpose;
• and that during the faid further Term all the Territorial Acquifitions obtained in the Eaft Indies, which, by an Act made in the seventh Year of his Majesty's Reign, for establishing an Agreement for the Payment of a certain Annual Sum for a limited Time by the faid Company, in refpect to the faid Acquifitions, and the
• Revenues thereof, and by subfequent Acts, were continued in the Possession of the faid Company, together ' with the Territorial Acquifitions lately obtained there, with the Revenues of the fame refpectively, ih »u'd * remain in the Poffeffion of the faid Company, without Prejudice to the Claims of the Publick or of the faid
• Company, fubject to fuch Powers and Authorities for the Superintendance, Direction, and Control over all Acts, Operations, and Concerns, which relate to the Civil or Military Government or Revenues of the faid Territories, as have been already made or provided by any Act or Acts of Parliament in that Behalf, or to fuch further Powers, and under and fubject to fuch other Rules, Regulations, and Restrictions, relating ⚫ to or concerning the faid Civil Government, and the Appropriation of the faid Revenues, as fhall be now
• made and provided by the Authority of Parliament:' May it therefore please your Majelty that it may be Territorial Ac-enacted; and be it enacted by the King's most Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Consent of quifitions, with the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament assembled, and by the Autho- rity of the fame, That the faid Territorial Acquifitions in the faid former Acts mentioned, together with the Territorial Acquisitions lately obtained in the East Indies, with the Revenues thereof respectively, thall re- main and continue in the Poffeffion of the faid United Company for and during the further Term by this Act granted to them in the said exclusive Trade, fubject nevertheless to the several Regulations and Provifions in this A&t contained.

II. And be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That it fhall and may be lawful for his Majefty, his Heirs or Succeffors, by any Letters Patent, or by any Commiffion or Commiffions to be iffued under the Great Seal of Great Britain, from Time to Time to nominate, conftitute, and appoint, during his or their Pleasure, fuch Members of the Privy Council (of whom the two Principal Secretaries of State, and the Chan- cellor of the Exchequer for the Time being, thall always be three,) and fuch other two Perfons as his Ma- jefty, his Heirs or Succeffors, fhall think fit to be, and who shall accordingly be and be styled Comuniifianers for the Affairs of India.
III. And be it further enacted, That any three or more of the faid Commiffioners fhall and may forın a Board, for executing the feveral Powers which by this Act, or by any other Act or Acts, are or thail be given to or vefted in the faid Commiffioners; and that the, first named Commiffioner in any fuch Letters Pa- tent or Commiffion for the Time being fhall be the Prefident of the faid Board; and that when any Bond shall be formed in the Absence of the President, the Commiffioner whose Name fhall stand next in the Order of their Nomination in the faid Commiflion, of thofe who fhall be prefent, fhall for that Turn prefide at the faid Board.
IV. And be it further enacted, That if the Commiffioners prefent at any Board fhall be equally divided in have the cafting Opinion, in refpect to any Matter by them difcuffed, then and on every such Occasion the Prefident, or in
his Abfence the Commiffioner acting as fuch, fhall have two Voices, or the cafting Vote.

V. And be it further enacted, That the faid Board of Commiflioners fhall and may nominate and appoint fuch Sceretaries and Officers as fhall be neceffary to attend upon the faid Board, who fhall be subject to Dɗ- miffion at the Pieature of the faid Board; and that the Proceedings of the faid Commiffioners fhall be entered in proper Books; and that as well the faid Commiffioners or fuch and so many of them as his Majefty thall think fit, as likewife their Secretaries and other Officers, fhall be paid fuch fixed Salaries as his Majesty thill, by any Warrant or Warrants under his Sign Manual, counterfigned by the Chancellor of the Exchequer for the Time being, direct; and that in the mean Time the Salaries and Allowances already granted to the Sc cretaries and Officers of the prefent Board of Commiffioners for the Affairs of India thall be continued, al which Salaries, together with all other contingent Charges and Expences to be incurred by the faid Board, fhall be paid and defrayed quarterly by the faid Company, and deemed and taken as Part of their Commer- cial Charges, the quarterly Amount thereof being first fettled and allowed by the faid Board, and certified by the President or acting President of the said Board for the Time being, to the Court of Directors of the fail Company: Provided always, That the Whole of the Salaries to be paid to the Members of the faid Boud
