You told Mr Ellis in your letter of

6 December that you were prepared, as his Member

of Parliament, to put his allegations of

corruption to the new Independent Commission

Against Corruption. The department have now

spoken again to Mr Cater, the Commissioner,

following the discussion you had with him in

London last year. Mr Cater made the point that

the Commission had not yet started work, and

that he could not even consider the question

officially until it begins operations later

this month. However he confirmed that, if there

was additional evidence of corruption in

Mr Ellis's case, his Commission would look at it, since this was the Commission's function. At the same time he pointed out, as he did to you, that the Commission Against Corruption
