Reg. v. LAI For-pui

On the 16th April last the above-named LAI For-pui was

found guilty of the murder of one W00 Ming-sang and was sentenced

to death. He applied to the Full Court for leave to appeal against

his conviction, and on the 10th June the Full Court, having treated

the application for leave to appeal as the appeal, dismissed it.

Pursuant to the Royal Instructions, I have the honour

to submit herewith a report on the case.

The facts wore as follows:

About 6.45 on the morning of the 31st August 1973, WOO

Ming-sang (to whom I shall horeafter refor as the deceased), aged

18, wont to the Paris Billiards Saloon with his wife, LUI Wai-yeo,

Ah Chuen, TAM Bing-chiu and WU Chi-kin. They went to a room off

the billiards room and there commenced playing slot-machines.

Shortly after a group of people, of whom the accused was onc rushed

in and accused was heard to shout. "He is the one". The deceased

was bolaboured around the back with billiards' cucs and he rushed

out of the room pursued by the group. It would appear from the

evidence that the accused was not aware of the whereabouts of the

exits from the billiards room and having run around a billiard table he returned to the slot-machine room with the group still in

pursuit.

Ho was thore cornerod and the assault resumed. Those who
