with the Deceased's husband who was injured but not killed. He considered that he was an unfortunate person. In China he had never enjoyed proper family life and he was bad tempered, self-ashamed because of this loss. He hoped that he could be granted mercy from death and said that he had left his elder maternal uncle in Hong Kong because he was too strictly treated.

G. SUMMARY

The Prisoner appeared to come from a broken family where proper paternal care was lacking as a result of his parents' divorce. He thus lacked what he called family security which led to incomplete development and abnormal need for com- pensation. He resented control, as was in some way evidenced by his desire to free from his elder maternal uncle's use of discipline. However, it was unfortunate that he had not used his freedom well and he had instead associated with a group of undesirable characters, and given way to the temptation of gambling. Thus he could not be totally absolved from the offence he was alleged. He had been in Hong Kong only about one year and 2 months. Actually he could have been a social misfit long ago as his uncle said he was fond of gambling before he came. He represented a group of new wave of ruthless potential criminals with refugee background and perhaps with criminality rooted in place of origin beyond detection.

He was beyond help once given by his uncle, and will go a long way to get settled down.
