Welfare Cluh for stay. The Prisoner was a lazy worker. He was fond of gambling at gambling stalls and of going to the Kai Tuk Amusement Park to hav funs. He heard that he used to spend all of his income on gambling, and to associate with undesirable friends.

3. Mr. NG Tin, captain at Paramount Restaurant, Wanchai, H.K.

The Prisoner might be one of the temporary staff of whom Mr. Ng had no record about the Prisoner's work.

4. Mr. CHIU, captain at Man Yu Restaurant, Sai Yeung Choi

Street. Kowloon

The Prisoner had worked there from April 1973 to mid-May 1973. Mr. Chiu could not remember knowing the Prisoner and had no information about him.

E. ABOUT THE DECEASED, Yeung Mui-kan, F/57 of Wai Chow, China

The Deceased was married with five children who were all grown-up and self-supporting in the Mainland China. She alone came to Hong Kong in 1950 and joined her husband as an earth-coolie for about six years. Then she took up farming for a year, and working for the factory workers at the factory where her husband was caretaker and foreman for about two years. Then she remained at home to do housework and had not been

employed for the last fifteen years. In June 1974, she was asked by her husband to help in the cleaning work of the apart- ment house where he had been managing for his nephew as room- keeper since April 1974. The Deceased's husband was assisted by his younger nephew and was supported by relatives and clansmen.

According to the Deceased's husband, Mr. Cheung Kwong- ping @ Mr. Cheung Sum-tai M/58 of 59, Yan Hing Street, Tai Po Market, N,T., the Deceased was a gentle woman who was hard- working and well-liked by her relatives and friends.

The Deceased's nephew-in-law, Mr. Cheung Kong-man, M/68, also confirmed that the Deceased was quiet, hard-working, thrifty and contented.

Similar comments were obtained from the Deceased's next-door neighbour, Mrs. Lam, who commented that the Deceased and her husband were law-abiding couple, and that she felt very sorry for the widower about the death of his wife.

T. INTERVIEW OF THE PRISONER

The Prisoner was interviewed on 13.9.74 at the Stanley Prison. He claimed that he was sorry for what had happened to the Deceased and said that he should not be the only one solely responsible for her death. He said that he had only struggled
