H. PERSONS CONTACTED (relevant to the Prisoner's conduct and behaviour)

1. CHAN Yu-chui (Mother of the Prisoner)

He

The Prisoner was said to be a well-behaved son before, was obedient to her and respectful to his step-father.

He always taught his younger brothers and sister how to behave. He had no undesirable hobbies and always took home much of what he earned. However, towards the end of 1971, he became more and more unattentive at work and was fond of staying out even over-night without letting the parents knew his whereabouts. Parental advice to keep away from those dubious characters in the vicinity became ineffective. She had suspected him of taking drugs because of his pale appearance, yet he denied it from time to time, until he was sentenced to the Tai Lam Addiction Treatment Centre in May, 1972. He had not lived at home after his discharge from the treatment centre and his behaviour outside was beyond her control.

2. LAM Miu-ching (Step-father of the Prisoner)

Mr. LAM said that the Prisoner was quite respectful to him but he was too old to han lle him effectively. He was properly behaved. at home and was kind to his brothers and sister. He used to give his support to his mother. He liked playing mahjong very much and was not very industricus at work. Mr. LAM did not know his drug addiction until his being sentenced to the addiction treatment centre. Mr. LAM said he knew little about his outside conduct except hearing from others that the Prisoner had associated with some triad society members in Shek Kip Mei.

3. LAM Shuk-wun, LAM Shing-kei, LAM Shing-yip (younger siblings of

the Prisoner)

The Prisoner was sai. to be a kind but strict elder brother. He disapproved of their misconduct, such as laziness in school work, disobedience to parents or staying out late. But he himself liked to paly mahjong and movie-gcing most, and he sometimes did not live at home. He was not hot-tempered and seldom had disputes with parents.

4, CHAN Yu-foon, F/41 (maternal aunt of the Prisoner, a housewife,

living at No.8, Yu Man Square, 5/F, Kwun Tong)

The Prisoner was a very clever boy but unfortunately he had to drop his studies at young age owing to poverty. He was very respectful to her, As they had rare contact only, she did not know much of his general conduct but believed that he was led astray by undesirable characters in Shek Kip Mei area.

5. CHAN Yat-chuen M/69 (Ex-employer of the Prisoner and proprietor

of Cheun Cheung Kui Restaurant at No. 194 Tai Po Road, G/F, Kowloon)

The Prisoner had worked at his restaurant for about three years as a kitchen attendant and later a waiter. He was a capable young boy and could be a very good employee should he be more humble to accept others' advices. He maintained good relationship with other colleagues. However, he was indulgent in playing mahjong which made him unattentive at his work. He quitted the job of his own accord after Mr. CHAN had twice asked him to improve his lazy working attitude. was too stubborn in personality.
