In accordance with Clause XXXIV of the Royal Instructions

I report upon the case of the above two young men, born some time in 1953 and on 28th May 1954 respectively who have today been convicted by jury after a trial lasting nine days of the murder of a Chinese man called Wong Fat Nip at the 9th floor flat at No.20 Yen Chow Street, Sham Shui Po, Kowloon late on the night of 28th February 1973, and have been sentenced by me to death.

In the case of each young man the jury made a recommendation

The two accused, who were defended by a single counsel of experience, were also at the same time convicted of wounding two other Chinese men LAU Wah and YUNG Chi-sheung at the same time and place with intent to do those persons grievous bodily harm, and were sentenced by me to 5 years imprisonment on each charge to be served concurrently.

Both accused have previous conviction for offences involving some measure of violence.

The 2 accused late on the night in question went to the premises concerned with a number of other men led by a man called HO So-kuen with another called Ah Foi as second in command. The premises were the Headquarters of a callgirl organisation of which the deceased was second in command and the leader a Chinese man called Tai Pau. LAU Wah and YUNG Chi-sheung were car attendants in the organisation. So Kuen had been living with a young woman called HO Shuet-fong and had introduced her to a callgirl organisation who had subsequently transferred her to Tai Pau's organisation. Tai Pau had advanced her money but she did not like working in his organisation and ran away. On 19th February 1973 she was kidnapped in the street by Tai Pau's organisation and imprisoned in premises in Hing Wah Street, Kowloon, being only discovered and released after the death of WONG Fat-nip. There had been negotiations between So Kuen and Tai Pau for the release of HO Shuet-fong but they had come to nothing.
