C. SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT
Formerly the family lived at Queen's Road West, Hong Kong and was later in Dec. 1965 rehoused to Room 908, Block 14, Chaiwan Estate, 9/F, Hong Kong. Before the incident occurred, the house- hold material standard was good according to the level of the family earnings, and the household work was satisfactorily kept. The family appeared to maintain good relationship with the neigh- bourers who were housewives, wig-factory hands.

The Prisoner was inclined to make friends with his fellow clansmen who spoke the same dialect and observed similar worships.

Miss Chan said her parents quarrelled with each other as frequently as several times per week. She saw them exchange of aggression, fighting each other with fists and blows, household uterBils. She believed her mother was greatly influenced by her aunt, Madam Cheung Shui-chai who was not on good terms with the Prisoner. She was rather angry with the Prisoner for what he did to her mother for fighting, but pleaded that her brother being young, may one day require his care and attention.

Madam Cheung was the match maker of the Prisoner and the Deceased. She spoke rather unfavourably of him, saying that he was always ill-tempered before his wife and used force against her during quarrels.
