I. INTERVIEW WITH PRISONER

Prisoner was interviewed in the Stanley Prison on 25th April, 1974. He did not seem to be much depressed during the interview. He maintained that although he did not return home frequently, he was on good terms with his parents and younger brothers. He admitted that he had gone astray through association with undesirable friends who induced him to join a Triad Society and participate in their unlawful activities. Regarding his present offence, he regretted for his wrong doing but stressed that he had no intention of killing the deceased beforehand. He hoped that mercy be granted him so that he would start a new life.

J. SUMMING UP

Brought up by the parents who were both engaged in long hours of work, the Prisoner did not receive the proper attention as he should during his vital years of growth and development. His parents were unable to stop him from absence from home or to keep track of his movements outside the home. Coupled with a low education standard and without good hobbies to his own liking, he was more easily susceptible to influence of undesirable associates to whose beliefs and whims he subs- cribed against his true good nature as a good son in the family, being well-spoken of by those that knew him. It was also a pity that he did not avail himself of the assistance and guidɛace of the aftercare officer who found him uncooperative after he was discharged from the Training Centre. He was naturally not better off in conduct after all the lessons he received at the training centre. which often left one wonder the usefulness of providing expensive programme for him at a training centre. He was sorry that he had committed the serious offence which was rare to find from a triad youth. Little was known about his position in the triad gang and his movement associated with giving protection to young prostitutes. He may be taken advantage of by some other more diehard type of youths. This is often a very difficult age in which he made very bad decision for himself and learned his lesson the hard way because of his blind loyalty to a triad gang.
