Condemned Prisoner: CHENG Wing-fei

Report by Home Affairs Department

Enquiries have been made by the staff of City District Offices in both Kwun Tong and Sham Shui Po where the nearest relatives of the prisoner and the victim live.

2.

The father of the prisoner is a watchman and the mother is a worker in a metal ware factory. They have five children and the prisoner is their second child. Upon enquiry by the staff of the Kwun Tong City District Office, the parents denied any knowledge of their son's crime. According to some local residents interviewed, the prisoner had been in the detention centre once and was involved in disputes over girls in certain girlie establishments which resulted in the subsequent crime.

3.

The nearest relative of the victim cannot be found at the given address.

4.

However, the general opinion expressed by the contacts of both City District Offices is that the death sentence should be executed as a deterrent to crime in the present day of declining law and order. People are disappointed to see commutation of death sentence being granted to condemned prisoners in recent years.
