The 22nd day of November, 1973.

TO XC74)

TO HIS EXCELLENCY SIR CRAWFORD MURRAY MACLEHOSE, KNIGHT

COMMANDER OF THE MOST DISTINGUISHED ORDER OF ST. MICHAEL

AND ST. GEORGE, MELBER OF THE MOST EXCELLENT OKDER OF

THE BRITISH EMPIRE, GOVERNOR AND COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF

THE COLONY OF HONG MŨNG AND ITS DEPENDENCIES:

THE HUMBLE PETITION OF

CHAN HON TONG

a condemned prisoner in Stanley Prison

humbly sheweth:

1.

I was on the 26th day of February, 1973, convicted

in the Supreme Court of Hong Kong, upon the verdict

of a jury, of the offence of murdering WONG YUA LIN,

a girl of 18 years of age, and was for that offence

sentenced to suffer death in the manner authorised

by law.

2.

My appeal to the Full Court of the Supreme Court

of Hong kong against the said conviction has been

dismissed and I have been refused leave to appeal

further to Her Majesty-in-Council.

3.

4.

I respectfully petition Your Excellency that Your

Excellency may be pleased to exercise the Royal

Prerogative of Mercy in my favour and commute the

said sentence of death to one of imprisonment.

The grounds upon which I petition Your Excellency

are as follows:

(a) The case for the prosecution against me was wholly

circumstantial in character and is set out in

detail in the judgment of the Full Court dismissing

my appeal.
