Dear Foreign Secretary,
Hong Kong:
Closure of the "China Mail"
NE
REF.
I wrote to you on this subject yesterday and I apologise for troubling you with another letter but I have had a further discussion with Mr. B. Pearton, the Chairman of the Hong Kong Journalists' Association.
I have been asked by our colleagues in Hong Kong to lend any weight the National Union of Journalists can to their call for the question of terms on which journalists displaced from the "China Mail" are compensated should be the subject of neutral arbitration between the management and the staff concerned. I gladly do this.
I know that the Hong Kong Journalists' Association would welcome any Government move to enforce or encourage such arbitration, as would my own Union.
Yours sincerely,
