that technical military discussions are still going on about
the appropriate level of forces but that for their information
only, to be treated in the strictest confidence, it seems likely
that there will be a reduction of about one major unit.
4. At this stage, therefore, we cannot go beyond the terms of
the Parliamentary Statement and indeed premature public dis-
cussion of the future force levels or size of the Hong Kong
contribution would only serve to complicate the consultations.
Mr Walker has also tabled a question about the future løvel
of the Hong Kong contribution and Head of Fl(Air) is proposing
a reply in similar terms.
